Each year, 22,500 cemeteries across the United States bury: - 30 million board feet of hardwood caskets - 90,272 tons of steel caskets - 14,000 tons of steel vaults - 2,700 tons of copper and bronze caskets - 1,636,000 tons of reinforced concrete vaults - 827,060 US gallons of embalming   fluid, usually includes formaldehyde There seems to be a culture about not letting go of those that pass away, exhibiting practices that conserve the deadʼs bodies as long as possible and keep it safe in an expensive box forever. Burial practices seem to have created an individualistic sense of death, surrounded by ideas of egocentrism, power and elitism. - This study proposes a new strategy that focuses on the biological cycle of all thatʼs organic, and a much more gentle and discreet way to letting go during a time of mourning.
